Reactive Dog Class
This 6 week course is based on Karen Pryor Instructor and Author, Emma Parson’s book "Click To Calm" and her curriculum for reactive dogs. All principals based on positive reinforcement training, using a clicker. Dogs are conditioned to associate the sound of the clicker, followed by a pleasant and tasty treat, with the aversive stimuli. This will help to change the emotional state of the dog. Visual barriers will be used to keep dogs under threshold in order to teach new skills and behaviors. These behaviors include but not limited to, focusing, looking at a stimulus without reacting, hand targeting and some basic obedience skills. Class size is limited to 5 dogs. A second handler may be required if a dog is over 25 lbs. A Reactive Agreement with a deposit must be signed prior to setting up an evaluation. All dogs must be evaluated. Students are encouraged to join the Yahoo Group “Cape Cods Feisty K9’s” for support, questions and ongoing training discussions. Dogs use head halters, training harnesses or martingale collars only. There will be 1 Instructor and 2 Co-Instructors present in each class.
