Flyball is a relay race with 4 dogs on a team. The course consists of a  start line, 4 hurdles spaced 10 feet apart and a box. The first hurdle is 6 feet from the start line and the box is 15 feet from the last hurdle for a 51 foot overall length. The dog jumps the hurdles and steps on a spring loaded box that shoots out a tennis ball. The dog catches the tennis ball and then runs back over the hurdles. When the dog crosses the starting line the next dog goes. The first team to have all 4 dogs run without errors wins the heat. Any breed of dog or size can play. All participating dogs should be at least 7 months old and not older than 7 unless they are already engaged in sports, such as agility. Dogs should be physically sound (no hip or leg problems) and not dog, or people aggressive. They should have basic obedience skills, including recall.

K9 Nose Work Classes - With Michele Ellerston

K9 Nose Work is the fastest growing recreational sport open to ALL dogs, regardless of age, size, physical limitation or level of training. It provides physical exercise and mental stimulation. Dogs work one by one, allowing them to focus and learn. Natural behaviors are encouraged, which build confidence and drive in the game of scenting and searching. This sport strengthens the relationship with our canine companions, as we learn how they experience the world.

Please bring to Class: Crate and blanket to cover, smelly treats, buckle collar or harness only. Reactive dogs welcome

Michele Ellertson ANWI (Associate Nose Work Instructor through the National Association of Canine Scent Work).

*The National Association of Canine Scent Work sets the standards governing the sport of K9 Nose Work. The NACSW is the only official sanctioning and organizing body for K9 Nose Work titles and ORTs (odor recognition tests).

The mission for NACSW is to ensure that nose work activities and events uphold a high standard of excellence in training safety and practice using motivational, non-aversive techniques with the priority being fun and the well-being for the dog.
