Kathy Joffe M.Ed. APDT

Kathy's profession for over thirty years has been teaching - teaching children and teaching dogs. She is a retired math and science middle school teacher with a masters in science education. At the same time that Kathy as working with children of various needs, she was working with puppies and dogs. Training programs and seminars with nationally recognized dog behaviorists and trainers helped Kathy transfer pedagogy skills over to the canine clientele.

In the past Kathy taught private competitive dog obedience lessons, and her students learned titles at all levels - novice open, and utility. She was also a long time instructor for the South Shore Dog Training Club in Quincy, MA where she worked with both pet dogs and competition dogs. Kathy started a 4H dog club in Walpole, MA. Students from 8 years to 16 years of age participated and developed a better understanding of their canine best friends.

Now through Dogs Debonair on the Upper Cape, Kathy continues teaching. She works with dog owners to develop positive bonding with their dogs and to solve existing behavior problems. She advocates using a positive approach to keep the dog's motivation high and to make training a pleasant and rewarding activity.

At Joseph's Obedience Training School Kathy teaches Level I and Level II classes for pet dogs to become better home companions. She also teaches the AKC Canine Good Citizenship class covering material that the AKC evaluates in order to certify a dog as a well-behaved canine citizen. This same class covers Therapy Dog requirements for dogs who will visit nursing homes. Kathy does Competition Obedience Skills Workshops and also teaches an Introduction to Rally-O Class. Private lessons are also available with Kathy for your individual needs.
